For me, Rachel Weisz is pretty much it, man. The perfect combination of beauty and solid acting ability that was confirmed not too long ago by Mr. Oscar. Whether she’s smoldering up the screen in Confidence or klutzing about in The Mummy, she’s pretty much my favorite actress out there right now. I also dig her more dramatic works, like her turns The Fountain and of course The Constant Gardener. On a personal note, that film in particular always hits home because I’ve been to Kenya several times, have plenty of in-laws there and have been to many of the places featured in the film. And as in Gardener, Weisz is set to portray a crusader in her next announced role.
Variety has word that Darren Aronofsky’s main squeeze will be starring in The Whistlelower, an indie political drama. The film is described as based on a true story, Whistleblower chronicles the trials of a female cop from Nebraska who serves as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia and exposes a United Nations cover-up of a sex trafficking scandal. Larysa Kondracki (Viko) is set to direct and also wrote the script with Eilis Kirwan (Nostradamus and Me). Meanwhile, Weisz also has several other projects upcoming, including The Lovely Bones, The Brothers Bloom and Alejandro Amenabar’s Cannes entry, Agora.
