This weekend I had a chance to talk with Aziz Ansari, the guy behind the character of Randy from Judd Apatow’s Funny People. While Randy only gets a few moments of screentime, the character has busted out into something bigger, including a two-part documentary (the second part of which is embedded below). Ansari told me that while Randy isn’t really based on any comedian (he thinks of the character as what would happen if Soulja Boy had gotten into comedy), there are some serious Dane Cook-ism on display in this episode. And Ansari told me that Randy’s apartment was really influenced by Jerry Seinfeld’s documentary Comedian.
