csaUPDATE: The full trailer for The Prestige has now arrived in gloroius Quicktime. Check it out HERE!

America’s thirst for old time magicians knows no bounds, which is why we’re getting not one but two 19th century magician movies this year. The first out the gate is The Illusionist; with Paul Giamatti and Edward Norton it has the best actors of the two. Unfortunately, even these great actors couldn’t elevate the film beyond passably good. So now the hope rests on two of the internet’s favorite actors, Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman (although I’ll tell you what – after The Fountain Jackman may well join Giamatti and Norton as Oscar nominees) with The Prestige.

The Prestige arrives in October, but some of the trailer footage has turned up on YouTube, after being premiered on Entertainment Tonight or some other shitty show. There’s no hint of David Bowie as Nikola Tesla, but there’s a hint of something truly supernatural going on. I haven’t read the book the movie is based on, so I don’t know if that’s actually the case, but I will tell you that these clips have raised my expectations for the film.
