Ms. Mara is up for a bit of the ole "in and out"...

The NY Times has gotten into the tradition of creating great sets of short video pieces for their annual Hollywood Issue, last year showcasing “14 Actors Acting” which put a handful of great performers in often beautiful and sometimes funny little cinematic moments. This year they’ve done the same, except now the focus is on great screen villains and a new round of actors join the fun. Take a look at the list…

Mia Wasikowska as the Home Wrecker
Brad Pitt as the Madman
Rooney Mara as the Sociopath
Gary Oldman as the Menacing Dummy
Kirsten Dunst as the Siren
Jean Dujardina as the Hothead
George Clooney as the Tyrant
Glenn Close as the Vamp
Viola Davis as the Vengeful Caretaker
Jessica Chastain as the Fire Starter
Ryan Gosling as the Invisible Man
Adepero Oduye as the Outlaw
Michael Shannon as the Tycoon

Now while each <1 min video title refers to a archetypical villain type, there are some that definitely recreate a very specific screen villain. So while Jean Dujardina hits the general “hothead fighter” type, you’ve clearly got people like Mara, Pitt, and Shannon (respectively) taking on A Clockwork Orange, Eraserhead, and Wall Street pretty specifically.

It’s a really cool mix and you should take the 15 minutes to go through the gallery slideshow, look at the inspiration photos, and read the behind-the-scenes. My favorite and choice for the absolute creepiest would have to be Gary Oldman as the “Menacing Dummy,” which takes its cues from the Hopkin’s horror flick, Magic.

Let us know which actor/villain combo ends up as your favorite.
