url-7Last night Bryan Singer let us in on his latest casting choice via twitter, and it was a doozy. The tweet announced something no one thought to see coming: Peter Dinklage would be joining the cast of X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

Naturally we were all quick to scour the Marvel world for the obvious possibilities based on Dinklage’s stature, and aside from Puck of Alpha Flight (who is not a mutant, as I first read) you’d have to be real unimaginative to come up with anything, with even that being kind of a weird stretch. Things have developed today though, as Variety has accentuated the news with their confirmation that Dinklage will not only be playing a villain, but “the main antagonist.”

This thickens the plot for sure, and makes me all the more excited to see what Singer and co. have come up with. If they’re thinking outside of the box, all the better. Dinklage is a fine character actor and one who is enjoying a zeitgeisty popularity thanks to Game of Thrones, and a popularity well earned after a lot of years of toiling.

Dinklage’s role will be a hot scoop, so keep an ear out for clarification sooner rather than later.
