Christopher Nolan has done three films in a row with Christian Bale, so it’s good news that he’s moving on to Leonardo DiCaprio for his next ‘between Batmans’ interlude movie, Inception.

DiCaprio’s deal is in the final negotiation stage, according to Variety, and the sci-fi movie, written and directed by Nolan, shoots later this year. That’s all we know at this point, as plot details have been refreshingly thin. Trade says that Warner Brothers calls it “a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.”

Without more detail than that it’s impossible to speculate on Leo’s suitability for the role, but don’t let that stop you. What I can say is that we’re seeing an unexpected but satisfying (if small) group of projects demonstrating that sci-fi which goes beyond the big explosive ‘ships and lasers’ stuff is gaining ground at studios. Let’s hope Watchmen doesn’t put a stake in that this weekend.
