I wanted to like Lost In Space. I understood that it was lesser classic sci-fi, but I really loved the premise. Desert island stories have always resonated with me. But every time I tried to watch re-runs of it on the Sci-Fi Channel as a kid, I could never commit. To me it was like Star Trek and Gilligan’s Island had a lousy love-child.

The 1998 movie was much more my speed, but that was only because I was a preteen when it came out. A revisit earlier this year proved what I had suspected for years — it’s a hunk o’ junk.

But according to Deadline, there’s still some glimmer on this crusty show. Netflix is looking to reboot the franchise, with writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold) and director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers). It looks like Marshall will only direct the first episode, but hey, he’s one of the best directors working in TV right now. That Castle Black episode of GoT he directed is one of my favorite hours of cable TV in the past decade.

There’s no date on any of this yet, but it looks like a full-season order is inbound. I’m lookin’ forward to it.
