Wouldn’t usually run with a picture of a poster, but until now Neighborhood Watch had quite effectively bypassed my radar. The film, which is set for a July 27th release, has a simple enough premise:

A group of friends (Stiller, Vaughn, Hill, and Ayoade) form a neighborhood watch group for their suburb to allow them time to bond and escape from their families. However, when the group discovers a plot that threatens the entire world, they are forced to confront it head on.

The film is Shawn Levy’s next effort, which is notable since Levy recently pulled a mad 180˚ shift in the film geek consciousness with his film Real Steel. Few agreed with me that the film pretty much blows, and there’s no denying that it was well received even by people who had long written Levy off for his string of pandering comedies. It stands to reason that his next film, which stars guys like Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller, Billy Crudup, and even features work from Doug Jones as an alien, will at least get the benefit of more open minds at the start. And hell, even I found Real Steel to be a well-constructed bad movie, which is certainly a step up from what Levy was making before. Still, Levy has made comedies like this before with this talent before, so I’m not optimistic.

You can see the first still from the film above, meanwhile Collider was able to snap the aforementioned picture of a possible poster. We see a modified neighborhood watch logo covered in bullet holes and what one must assume is alien blood, leading me to wonder if these guys are gonna be whacking some aliens.

…which seems to be taking its cues from District 9. Which, you know, fair enough.

I’m sure we’ll be seeing a trailer for this summer comedy soon enough, and we’ll be able to decided if this is more Real Steel or more Night At The Museum.
