At this point, with a touch over a fortnight until the release of Quentin Tarantino’s Basterds, I’m in full ostrich, head-in-the-sand mode. I will fully admit that only a Kitten Rape: Volume 1 and Volume 2 from Tarantino would prevent me from seeing his films on opening day. Since my ticket was sold years ago, I never read the script and have only given each trailer a single view (plus however many times it popped up in a theater). This all means I’m kind of in the dark about what role the movie-in-a-movie Nation’s Pride will play in Inglourious Basterds.

The trailer for the faux-film is now available on Apple Trailers and YouTube as a sort of last ditch viral effort, and I’m a little bewildered. We can gather from the soundtrack that Inglourious Basterds itself will be business-as-usual for Tarantino- post-modern and crazy. I would have expected a full Grindhouse-level fidelity-to-period on something like this though, and not only is there no 1940s film grain in sight, the trailer is positively modern*! If it’s not the image-anchored motion graphics that get you, the CGI bullet-casings for the title card will. Maybe I’m just missing something…

UPDATE: When you avoid news about a film, you miss the fact that Eli Roth directs things. Things like Nation’s Pride. I wished he would have put the effort towards this (in regards to period) that he did with Thanksgiving.

The trailer, if oddly slick and insubstantial, has some nice images and cool shots and does its job of making me wish August 21st would get here a bit quicker. You can watch it here…

…or Stroll on over to Apple Trailers for quicktime.

Then…
