Perhaps becoming aware that Transformers 2 was a completely incoherent mess of pixelmetal and noise, Michael Bay promises that the next film will be less explosive. Literally.

The LA Times paraphrases Bay as implying the third film ‘won’t be as robot-heavy and there will be fewer explosions,’ but they only quote him as saying ‘There will be a nice crescendo ending,” Bay said. ‘It gets much more

into the robot character. The last time you kind of met a few of the robots; this time you’re gonna get a much cooler landscape.’

Oh goodie, more into the robot character. What’s interesting is that Bay appears to have no fucking clue what would make a good Transformers movie, and what it was that made his first film in the series so watchable. It isn’t about character, that’s for sure, as he seems to not understand what that even is (as evidenced by the entirety of TF2), and it’s not overwhelming, impossible to follow, logically disconnected action. It’s big set pieces with clear opponents who engage in chases and battles that are both kinetically exciting but also neurally comprehensible. That’s it! Robots hitting each other in a way where I can understand which robot is hitting which robot, and if you want to get really fancy, why this robot is hitting this robot.
