Once known as Movieline, a pretty good magazine at one point which featured some pretty ballsy articles. Now it’s much more geared towards fashion and the lifestyle of stars and the people who want to emulate them. To say that this magazine took an assdive in my eyes in an understatement. That said, I have a huge bias against it in my reviews. Just kidding.

This issue’s strong points:

  • Pretty solid article on home theaters of the rich and famous. Most of this stuff is well beyond our means but it’s still pretty awesome to see.
  • Stallone!

This issue’s weak points:

  • Stallone article is 1.5 pages.
  • Of all the films to give a ton of space to, they choose Infamous? First of all, it’s a year late and secondly… it’s boring.
  • Janet Jackson? What the hell? Cover of the magazine? Put your balls in the creamtorium, Movieline.
  • Fashion out the ass. I realize they took "MOVIE" out of the title of the magazine but I still can’t imagine people that’d buy this for that.
  • FINALLY, AN ARTICLE ON ELZABETH TAYLOR’S JEWELRY COLLECTION.

The mainstream entertainment magazine covers film, tv, music,
video, literature, and sometimes the theatrical stage with broad
strokes as only they can do. Owned by Time/Warner and proud to remind
you of such, the magazine is capable of the highest highs and the
lowest lows, often within a few pages of each other. Try as we might,
we can’t rid ourselves of its addictive and vindictive pages.

This issue’s strong points:

  • Decent if not shameless DVD box set article. It’s obviously geared around promotional concerns but for the casual reader it’s a good gauge of what is out there.
  • Paget Brewster! Granted, it’s not because they realize how great she is but rather late to the party as she just joined a big television show. Still, any love for Paget is good love.
  • Very solid ‘Casino Royale’ coverage.
  • Same goes for their quickie Tenacious D bit.
  • Thomas Pynchon!
  • They actually got me interested in the Beatles’ Love CD.

This issue’s weak points:

  • Worst Bond ranking I’ve ever seen [read our list]. They bash the shit out of Tim Dalton, which shows how foolish it is to use their opinion as anything other than a good gauge to choose the contrarian stance.
  • No way! They are ALL OVER the Borat ho-haw. Hard to believe.
  • A page for Jack Palance?
  • The article on Barbra Streisand fanatics baffles the knuckles offa me.
