I’ve been covering Machete Kills on year for most of this year, and the spinoff from Grindhouse that came out in 2010 was one of my favorite films of that year. The upcoming sequel, Machete Kills has amassed quite the interesting cast, including Mel Gibson as the villain.

Seems like there’s another real life villain that just may stop the film from being released. That villain is Overnight Productions. This outfit had gone into business with Robert Rodriguez’ Quick Draw Productions to make the sequel, and are now saying that Rodriguez’ production company did not provide them with Texas Tax Credit information along with a Producer fee for a gent named Rick Schwartz who owns Overnight Productions. If the court case, which Schwartz is claiming $2 million in damages is successful, Schwartz would be able to prevent it from being released, or, he’d just release it himself.

In the end, it’s very unlikely that the movie would sit on the shelf, as they’d probably want to make money on it, especially given that there’s a lot of fairly well known people in it. However this is all in the thinking that Schwartz wins the case.

In any event, I can use this as an excuse to post a picture of me from this past October when I met Machete himself, Danny Trejo.
