I love Spring Breakers. I just do. The film is already starting to carry the weight of hype and frequent quoting and all of that- the exactly kind of thing that sets up backlash and condescension from some if it, say, doesn’t explode in wider release.
Fair enough to the skeptics, but the movie is a very specific kind of great, and I still think it’s going to do well, so on we roll. Korine got away with it so, at the end of the day, whatever “victory” is possible is already assured. Making more than anything Ellison has produced since True Grit would merely be icing on a very weird, gross cake that you wouldn’t want to eat anyway.
