(UPDATE: Rockstar just released a teaser trailer. Check it out!)

No, it’s not a film adaptation of Red Dead Redemption, but it’s as close as we’ll get for a while.

Yes that’s right, John Hillcoat (The Road, The Proposition) has worked with Rockstar Games to create an original short film. It will use the in-game graphics (hopefully they won’t glitch!) and focus on John Marston, your gravel-voiced protagonist.

The 30 minute short film, created and directed by John Hillcoat (the director of The Proposition and The Road), chronicles a slice-in-time of protagonist John Marston as he tracks down his former fellow outlaw and friend, Bill Williamson.  Along the way, Marston encounters many of Red Dead Redemption’s eclectic cast of dreamers, misfits and liars.

According to Rockstar the film will “re-imagine” the story, so hopefully those of you still making your way through the game won’t have anything spoiled. If the trailers for the game are any indication, Hillcoat will have everything he needs to make a great piece of film here. (But will it be art? Ahem…)
