This week we heard about a film version of Stranglehold, the video game sequel to John Woo’s classic action movie, Hard-Boiled. The good folks at Twitch decided to look a little deeper into this and they actually contacted Terence Chang, John Woo’s long time producing partner. What he told them was surprising.

Chang says that the movie of Stranglehold will keep a couple of set pieces from the game, but will be a completely different story, which will span from Hong Kong to Chicago. But wait, it gets weird now:

It is a total reinvention, with a much younger Tequila. In other words, it is not a sequel to HARD-BOILED.

A much younger Tequila, the character played by Chow Yun-Fat? The guy’s a good actor, but he’s not good enough to play younger than a character he played SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO. So we have to assume another actor will step into the role, and that this is a prequel to Hard-Boiled. All of a sudden I’m much more interested in just what sort of madness Woo has planned.
