This new trailer for The X-Files: I Want to Die an Extraterrestrial appears to be getting specific, and if one of our Russkie readers wants to send us a decent translation, we might finally know a little something about the film (aside from “There’s lots of snow and Billy Connolly”).

Since running across this trailer on ComingSoon.net, I’ve watched it twice in the hopes of finding some easter eggs or a glimpse of a monster. Alas, nada. Visually, they’re still working overtime to evoke Howard Hawks’s (and Christian Nyby’s) The Thing from Another Planet, but I can’t imagine Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz would settle for a glossy remake of that classic since “Ice” (written by Glen Morgan & James Wong) borrowed heavily from John Carpenter’s version back in show’s first season. Since a full theatrical trailer should debut next weekend with 20th Century Fox’s The Happening, I’m not going to drive myself crazy searching for significance in this latest spot. But I absolutely invite you to waste your time trying to figure it out.

I’ve been worried that The X-Files: I Want to Believe might move off its late July release date for a less competitive fall berth, but, at this point, it seems locked in for the 25th. I just hope it performs solidly; I’d have no qualms with getting a new, two-hour-long Carter/Spotnitz X-Files episode every other year.
