You want to impress a hippie girl? Recite Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax to her. Those granola gals just love this shit. Take it from me, I worked for an environmental non-profit for a decade.

Now The Lorax, a book Dr. Seuss wrote way back in 1971, is getting the big screen treatment and rather than stuff Mike Myers in another hideous costume, Universal is going full CGI on it. Of course The Lorax is an ecologically conscious book about the destruction of the environment, so why not render it on machines that swarm in farms and eat up electricity like Marlon Brando ate up everything? I’m sure using all that electricity wouldn’t be in any way against the book’s themes.

“Ted Geisel was prescient in an uncanny way when he wrote the book and
explored themes of greed and how that can lead to the destruction of
environment,”
Chris Meledandri, head of Illusion Entertainment, who is producing the film for Universal, told Variety. Obviously Meledandri doesn’t realize that environmentalism didn’t start when he put a flourescent bulb in his SUV’s cabin light.

The film will be released on March 2, 2012, tying in with Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
