Collider.com’s Mr Beaks has seen the next Sam Mendes movie, Jarhead, and he offers some trenchant criticism of the flick. What’s most interesting to me is that Beaks notices what I worried about – the current war in Iraq, which has seen dozens of Marines killed in just the last week and change, really makes the first Gulf War, which Jarhead is about, look like a picnic outing. But this isn’t just an excuse for me to say nice things about Beaks (that’s what cuddling on the couch is for), this is an article about the film’s teaser poster, which is pretty cool. The poster manages to make that timeless GI image – the dogtag – very specific to the Middle East with those imposing oil fires. It’s something that tells me exactly what this movie is about.
Of course teasers get to be cool. The real poster will probably have Jake Gyllenhaal’s massive shaved noggin taking up most of the real estate.
