Variety has reported that Natalie Portman has left the production of Gravity for good this time. The yes/no drama between her and Warner Bros. has been going on for a while, but she was never able to find the time in her schedule to make this project work.
So now the studio has moved on to Sandra Bullock, hoping they can get her signed quickly so production can begin with director Alfonso Cuaron and co-star Robert Downey Jr. The film’s about astronauts struggling to survive on-board a space station after a problem with a satellite causes debris to pummel the place, killing several.
Even before the Portman on-off spectacle, others had been linked to the film such as Scarlett Johansson and Angelina Jolie. But now none of that matters, as it’ll be Sandra Bullock’s turn… unless something unexpected trips up the negotiations.
Budgeted at around $80 million Cuaron hopes to shoot in 3D and this sort of film, hesitantly called Castaway in space, would actually benefit from the medium.
