The live action Ghost in the Shell adaptation is slowly moving along, and Dreamworks announced a new writer today. They picked up the rights to the film last year with Jamie Moss as screenwriter, but they’ve now signed on Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Alexander, Night Watch) to write the script. Definitely a step up.
Avi and Ari Arad will be producing alongside Steven Paul of Seaside entertainment, and the film has been confirmed to be a 3D experience. Which will probably work wonders for the unintelligible series since it’s always been more about visuals than anything else.
Weirdly, there’s no mention of Steven Spielberg any more, who was really hyping it up when news came out last year.
In any case the film’s set to be released next year, and will will join a long list of manga to animated film to live action American adaptations, continuing in the proud tradition of films like Fist of the North Star and The Guyver.
