According to Jeff Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere, Superbad isn’t tracking as well as it should be. Awareness is not as high as I would like – this is a movie that is amazing enough that I walked in with elevated expectations and still found them exceeded. On the surface Superbad is a ‘teens trying to get laid’ movie, but it’s really like an especially filthy episode of Freaks and Geeks.
The trailers and TV spots don’t tell you how delightfully dirty the dialogue is, so Columbia has put up some clips from the very beginning of the movie that sort of give you a sense of the three main characters, uncensored. This isn’t the best stuff – ‘You don’t want girls to think you suck dick at fucking pussy’ is not in these clips, and that line will be immortal – but it’s good stuff.
