http://chud.com/nextraimages/mutant_chronicles.jpgIt is a time when the earth perilously balances on the brink of
devastation as war, famine, and plague grip the age of man. A time
when a menacing threat is uncovered that could destroy our world
forever.

The grit of World War One and modern day desperation combine to
reveal a vision that is dark and moody, yet alluring. It is a militaristic
nightmare…and a labyrinth of death.

The darkest age is yet to come. Have faith.

Welcome to The Mutant Chronicles.

Damn it. I so want to like a movie about a bunch of guys running around in a postapocalyptic future hosing down mutants with fancy weapons while yelling pseudo gritty one liners at each other. Especially one with Thomas Jane, Ron Perlman, and John Malkovich.

Actually, scratch that last part. Malkovich was in Eragon.

The Mutant Chronicles is based on the Doom Trooper games from back in the day and seems to be a flick with some decent production values and behind the scenes. Also, it’s coming from Edward Pressman’s company, which has some sizable output in its history. I just can’t tell by the site if the film is going to be Boll-tastic or a fun gory romp in the mold of Starship Troopers, Aliens, or Meatballs IV. The director is a guy by the name of Simon Hunter, whose work I don’t really know but judging from his sizzle reel to build awareness for this project, he’s watched a lot of sci-fi movies. I don’t know if that’s a good thing, but such is life.

This flick has been public news for some time, in fact our ex-Dave ran a couple of pieces on it. Now though, there’s an official poster and it’s pretty cool. There’s also the aformentioned sizzle reel on You Tube. It’s not great, but it certainly has better production values than most fan flicks (which are the worst thing, btw). See it here, though you might have to scroll through it if you, like me, get antsy during pre-game cinematics.

Right now, judging from the website, the footage, and the fact that despite my love for the actors mentioned above, sometimes they have been known to take a gig for the glory of a paycheck. Basically, this is either going to be Starship Troopers… or Starship Troopers 2.

The official site is here. Let’s keep an eye out. The scroll text at the top of this article is so arch that it’s going to be hard not to.
