The day it was confirmed Jamie Foxx would be taking villain duties for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the day a superhero sequel I could not give less of a shit about became one worth at least keeping an eye on. The Django star will be leaping on with director Marc Webb, joining the sequel as Electro. The highly-charged baddie is of course the supervillain identity of Max Dillon, a downtrodden figure in the Marvel U that has had run-ins with virtually every major hero and is not known for taking his defeats well.

Not surprisingly, when Jamie Foxx recently described his role publicly, he painted the picture of a sad, bad man.

“What you’ll see is that, for his whole life, no one is talking to him. People have stolen his ideas at the big company [Oscorp, presumably]. He’s a nobody. At a certain point, Spider-Man bumps into him and says, ‘You’re my guy. You’re my ears and eyes on the street.’

Then he says his name [Max Dillon], and no one has ever said Dillon’s name. He goes, ‘Wow!’ and, when Spider-Man leaves, he sort of thinks ‘I am Spider-Man’s partner!’. He’s cutting out Spider-Man’s face and pasting it on all his boards… [Then] everything goes bad with his mom. She doesn’t remember his birthday. He has something tragic happen and, when it turns on, he lights it up.”

Also not likely to, ahem, shock you is word from Foxx that the villain’s costume is going to be appropriately  ahem, amped up with the producers deciding on, like, fucking… cool bolts and shit, without any of those gay colors. We’re talking, like, liquid rubber and crazy you don’t even know shit. You don’t even know.

It won’t be green and yellow. It will be a different color. They want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic book-y, so it won’t be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff.

So them’s the details as Foxx is willing and able to tell them. Things will be moving quickly for the project as they tear ass to make that April 2014 release date, though I’m sure Foxx will be requiring a schedule with plenty of room for publicity duties over the next few months.
