Coming off of a wonderful and rather subdued performance as James Gordon in Batman Begins, Gary Oldman is now set to work under the creative (and long-awaited) direction of David Fincher in the film Zodiac. Oldman will be playing the role of attorney Melvin Belli.

Based out of San Fransico, Belli was a significant American lawyer who, aside from being known as the "King of Torts" thanks in part to his many famous personal injury cases, was also largely responsible in helping set up the foundations of modern consumer rights law. In relation to the Zodiac killer, Belli had received a letter from him in 1969 where the killer wished the attorney a Merry Christmas and said he hoped to retain enough self-control not to claim a ninth and tenth victim. Buzzkill!

Oldman joins a respectable cast that includes the likes of Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Jake Gyllenhaal and Goose (Anthony Edwards). Production is set to start in September… unless of course Fincher decides to disappear back into the void where other greats such as Terrence Malick once roamed.
