Lionsgate just released this teaser poster for Daybreakers, the new vampire film from the Spierig Brothers. It seems that just as they brought their own unique taste to their first film, Undead, they’re going after the vampire genre in the same way. It’s good to finally see something on this- Dave Davis brought us news on the movie waaay back in 2004.
Two-time Academy Award nominee® Ethan Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknown plague has transformed the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampires must capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out. However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race.
Willem Dafoe also stars as a vampire named Elvis, and Sam Neill is a vampire in charge of a major corporation, and that should be enough to sell your ticket right there.
Undead is definitely not a film without problems, but it was interesting enough to ensure that you’d do well to follow the Spierig Bros’ career. Daybreakers is set to open in theaters next January 8th, 2010. There’s an official website up now but there’s not much in the way of content yet… we’ll let you know when more pops up.
