The Clash of the Titans re-do, scripted by Lawrence Kasdan, has a director: Louis Leterrier. What about Hulk 2? Who cares, when you can rock the Kraken? (Does this play fully into the new Marvel conspiracy theory regarding the studio building a franchise with one director before moving on? Too early to call.) Legendary Pictures is co-financing and co-producing and Warner Brothers has given the go-code in a loud, clear voice.

Clash 2.0 might look nothing like the original, as WB wants to go the Zack Snyder/300 route, but the basic premise is the same. Perseus has to save Andromeda using Medusa’s head among other biotech tools. Personally, I’m happy to see this one moving on to new film methods; with Stan Winston gone I’m not sure there’s anyone who can follow in Ray Harryhausen’s footsteps with respect to practical effects, so let’s see some insane CGI and be happy.

In other muscled, sweaty, oiled, masculine (sorry, got carried away) Greek news, Titans will be going up against another mythological flick: War of the Gods, a script by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides to be directed by Tarsem. Not a bad choice, that, as The Fall suggests that, with some strong producer oversight, he could actually turn out a watchable fantasty flick. Gods is fast-tracked to start by the end of the year and plans to follow 300‘s lead as well. The plot isn’t dissimilar from Titans, which means we’ve got a good old-fashioned Mediterranean war on our hands: a mythological tale set in war-torn ancient Greece, as the young warrior prince Theseus leads his men in a battle against evil that will see the gods fighting with soldiers against demons and titans. All this also means that Sony is late to the punch with a God of War movie, but that’s probably for the best.
