vdsYou know how a news anchor will have to follow a story about the local dog parade with one about a four year old girl getting scalded to death? McG is trying one of those sorts of switch-ups, following his next film, the toy car movie Hot Wheels, with an as yet untitled film about a 1970 plane crash that wiped out much of the Marshall U football team (spoilers!). In fact, I like the image of McG as a local news anchor ā€“ the slickness and lack of depth is fitting.

Matthew McConaughey (chalk one up to the old studio system ā€“ they would have made him change his name to something spellable) will star in the film, which will shoot on the Marshall U campus, which is in West Virginia. Do they have electricity there? Iā€™m just teasing my readers who are trapped in a mine out there somewhere. Slow, shallow breaths, boys.

The script is going to be written by Jamie Linden, a newcomer who adapted The Dogs of Babel for Todd Phillips to direct. I don’t actually know anything about what happened, so I can’t share more details. The problem here is that I tend to not care about stuff like football teams in plane crashes unless they’re devouring each other in a desperate bid for survival.
