Now things are really getting interesting for Jonah Hex. First, we heard that the creators of Crank (Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor) were taking a wack at the adaptation of the DC comic, but not directing. Then we heard rumors that Josh Brolin would be involved. The we heard that Horton Hears a Who director Jimmy Hayward would be directing! How could this film get any more bizarre?

Today Variety reports that Brolin will indeed be appearing as the titular ugly-mugged character, and his foil will be none other than John Malkovich.

Malkovich will appear as Quentin Turnbull, who in the comics was a Virigian plantation owner who was after Hex for killing his son during the Civil War, and hired on a few criminals to help.

The comic revolved around Jonah Hex, a confederate officer during the Civil War. He’s the classic western anti-hero, but his travels have taken him to many strange places… in some books fighting zombies and creatures straight out of the Cthulhu mythos. No idea how supernatural the story’s going to get but it’s going to be fun just seeing Brolin wearing that makeup…

Production begins in April!
