Dabiel-Craig-James-BondEven as I find myself confounded that Silva was able to maintain a stable of henchmen for the sole purpose of killing an old lady whom he strongly disliked (not for, like, monetary gain or world domination), I still find myself in pretty deep like with Sam Mendes’ Skyfall. All of the Craig Bonds, actually. Yes, even Quantum.

Which is why I’m happy to report that there are doings afoot on the forthcoming untitled Bond 24. Renn told us a couple weeks back the Mendes was effectively off future Bond installmentsbut now there’s word from MGM CEO (there’s a phrase I never thought I’d type again) Gary Barber that a director is in the studio’s sights and will be announced soon. This from a conference call with investors:

“We are very excited about the franchise, we look forward to announcing a director soon.

We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners.  We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director.  We are hoping within the next 3 years it will be released.”

I feel as if Mendes’ Skyfall involvement raised the stakes for Bond directors. The series has never been a stranger to known directors, just not name directors. Skyfall’s massive success potentially opens the door for other name directors to approach the franchise which, in my opinion, wouldn’t be a terrible thing. I’d love a Bond 24 with a David Fincher or Rian Johnson attached. A name I hear oft-repeated is Christopher Nolan who, though a great loyalist to the franchise, sort of made his Bond film already with Inception (that snow base set-piece is classic Bond).

So now the question must be posed: who would you like to see steer the next Bond installment?
