A shame they changed the original title. They could have called this one Tonight He Comes… Again!

Peter Berg is out there drumming up interest in the hilariously silly-looking Battleship, and in doing so has reminded us not only that Hancock exists, but that it did well and could maybe get a sequel someday!

“We’ve been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, [producers] Michael Mann and Akiva goldman and myself. We’re all interested, but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for sequel — and Will Smith actually had the idea — so I think it will happen, it’s just a question of timing.”

That come from ComicBookMovie.com and doesn’t in any way suggest the sequel will materialize anytime soon, but as David Twohy and Vin Diesel have shown us, if you talk about this shit long enough it may just happen…

I actually kind of dig Hancock more than your average Joe I think, partly because it’s silly twist and melodramatic climax felt more comic book to me than most comic book movies. That said, it’s undeniable the film front-loads its quality, has some terrible CGI, and needed a re-tuning to be a memorable action flick (evidenced by the fact that I’ve never rewatched it). I could see a sequel being an opportunity to improve some of those problems, but then you face the issue of not having the character at that what if Superman were a drunk / “I’m a lovable asshole!” place. Without that hook, the fuck is the point?

In any event, just be aware this film is still on these guys’ brains so that in the event he does come, it’s not inside you (unless you want it).
