I’ve enjoyed Anthony Hopkins’ willingness to play genre characters, be it Corky Withers, Van Helsing, Sir John Talbot or Odin in the upcoming Thor. He’s now adding an exorcist to that list of characters as he’s signed onto The Rite for New Line. Adapted from a book by Matt Baglio and based
on true events, the story centers on a disillusioned American seminary
student who attends exorcism school at the Vatican and ultimately finds
his faith through encounters with demonic forces. Hopkins will play a priest who is an expert in exorcisms and whose methods are not necessarily traditional.
Mikael Hafstrom is directing a script from Michael Petroni, with Contrafilm’s Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson producing. No word yet on other casting nor shooting schedule.
