I haven’t read Angels & Demons, but I assume it’s just as dumb, if not dumber, than The DaVinci Code. The trailer for the movie includes at least one small element of dumbness: the Church never wiped out The Illuminati. They did wipe out the Knights Templar, and they did massacre gnostics, but The Illuminati, a 17th century parlor room secret society, walked into mythology unscathed by the Vatican’s sword.

I’m sure there’s more dipshittery in the movie (there’s a ludicrous action scene in the book which appears to be in the film, and I could not be more excited to see this in action. You thought nuking the fridge was bad…?), but that – and Tom Hanks’ improved hairstyle – are what stuck out in the new trailer for the sequel to The DaVinci Code. I do have to say that the film looks lovely – Salvatore Totino doesn’t just make a killer pizza roll, he also shoots nice mood and texture – but I’m watching that trailer wondering if I can sit through the whole film. The action quotient seems to have been upgraded, but is Tom Hanks in swimming action enough to mitigate the pain?
