Why do you ask? Because there are 4 blu-ray must haves that will be released.

1. How to Train Your Dragon (Oct 15)- The film that stole my heart this year. I saw this movie 3 times in theatres (1 in 3D and 2 in regular). That this film is so strong with such a simple narrative proves the power of well executed elements. In addition to the wonderful animation, the score is also my favorite of the year. John Powell is a master. I bet Disney is kicking themselves for not holding onto Chris Sanders and Dean Deblois.

2. Beauty and the Beast (Oct 5)- Another animated film. This is one of my favorite Disney movies of all time. It was the first animated film to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. The songs and score are masterfully done, by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman. Disney has long since lost its way in creating these wonderful animated stories. I had lost my platinum edition DVD and will be buying this on day one to relive “The tale as old as time.”

3. Psycho (Oct 19)- Arguably the greatest Hitchcock film of all time. It will be the first time ever on blu-ray. Not much needs to be said about this film. I would guess that it is on many people’s list, unless they don’t feel the need to upgrade from a DVD.

4. Moulin Rouge! (Oct 19)- Perhaps my most anticipated film on blu-ray. I have been waiting and waiting for this film. Why? Because it is my favorite musical of all time and if there was ever a film that would benefit from HD it is this film. The color palette and soundscape will be glorious. Baz Luhrman has commented that he worked very hard on the transfers, making sure that everything looks perfect according to his specifications.
