A friend of mine has the theory that Johnny Depp is so hot that he can’t rape someone. Like, if he had been doing the kind of grabassery that Christian Slater was engaged in earlier this week, no one would press charges.
I don’t know if that’s true but I do know that the ladies love cool Depp, and he, like most "serious" actors, loves playing scumbags and lowlives, so starring in a film called Addict sounds just like something he might do. The movie is based on the biography of writer Stephen Smith, who had a meth habit and ended up homeless.
Addict will be notable to nerds because Andy Serkis, aka Gollum, is directing it. He says that they are in talks with Depp right now and hope to have him signed within three weeks to start shooting in the UK this summer.
