sacShould the CGI technicians fire up their computers? Ridley Scott has hired Albert Finney to star in his next film, the winetastic A Good Year, opposite Russell Crowe. Of course the last time Scott hired a veteran actor to star alongside Crowe, especially one who is maybe a little saucy, they ended up having to finish the guy’s performance on a TRS-80. Now, I’m not insinuating there was any telephone tossing on that set…

The movie is based on the novel by Peter Mayle. Crowe will play a banker who leaves his high stress job to run a vineyard he inherited in the south of France. Finney will play Crowe’s uncle and the owner of the property. I think that means he gets knocked off pretty quickly, if my understanding of the word "inherited" is correct.

This film should be another of Scott’s "downtime" movies, like Matchstick Men, where he can relax and not have the fate of civilizations decided in the two hour running time. Whether or not having Russell Crowe spend that much time at a vineyard is a good idea remains to be seen, and read about on Defamer.
