Even in a year where people like PTA and Tarantino are releasing films that sound profoundly cool, Martin McDonagh’s follow-up to In Bruges is still one of the highest ranking flicks on the “potentially-cool-as-fuck” meter.
We covered the back-and-forth casting process for Seven Psychopaths that saw Mickey Rourke get all dickheaded about cash to star in the film now described now by EW thusly:
In it, a savage gangster (Woody Harrelson) goes on a rampage after his beloved shih tzu Bonny goes missing, snatched by an out-of-work actor (Sam Rockwell) who pays the bills by helping a professional dognapper (Christopher Walken) pick up pooches and return them for the reward money. Farrell stars as a struggling screenwriter, working on a script titled Seven Psychopaths, who gets caught up in his pal Rockwell’s troubles… but also finds a lot of great material in the life-and-death conflict playing out over the kidnapped dog.

What’s great is that the piece comes with photos, meaning this thing is very real. McDonagh also comments on the differences between this and the Oscar-nominated In Bruges.

Since In Bruges was already plenty hilarious, I’m going to assume this film may just break me in two. Meanwhile I’m seeing for the first time that Abbie Cornish, Gabourey Sidibe, and motherfucking Tom Waits are also set to show up in the film, which has an unknown fall release date through CBS Film.
