Thor 2 has largely stymied Marvel’s attempts at maintaining a track record of hiring interesting directors, as original helmer Branagh and left-field choice Patty Jenkins have both fucked off the project. This has left frequent HBO director Alan Taylor behind the camera, which I kind of thought was still up in the air (especially with many reports of Natalie Portman’s displeasure with Jenkins departure), but Loki himself has confirmed that Taylor will be behind the camera this Summer in an interview with Empire.
The film is apparently not 100% ready to go though, according to Deadline, as Marvel has called in another rewrite to be performed by Robert Rodat who wrote The Patriot, Saving Private Ryan, and… Fly Away Home.
On the other end of the post-Avengers Marvel spectrum, Iron Man 3 has Robert Downey Jr. excited, enough so that he sorts of treads lightly around throwing Iron Man 2 under the bus, but still promises an improvement to Omelete…
“I think that we have an opportunity with the third Iron Man to make the best of the three, and maybe one of the better superhero movies that’s ever been made. But I think we have to remember what made the first one good. It was very character-driven. It was very odd. It was kind of outrageous. And so I think we have to have the courage to trust that the audience is really kind of cool, and smart.”
Damn that man can tap-dance. That’s got to be some of the most graceful “we’ll do better this time!” I’ve ever seen. To be fair, I can’t think of many arrangements that could result in “one of the better superhero movies that’s ever been made” than Downey paired with Shane Black and plenty of money.
