The Devil in the White City is one of those projects that’s been on the radar for years, first optioned by Paramount for Tom Cruise in 2005, re-sparked in 2007, and then snagged by Leonardo DiCaprio who had designs to produce and star as of last year. Now WB has gotten on board and is jump-starting the project with a brand new screenwriter- one of the hot names in town, Graham Moore. This scribe’s name may jump out because he recently made news by selling his Alan Turing biopic script (which was hailed as a fantastic piece of writing, and just last week made the top of the Black List) to WB as well. So now you can expect to see this story of a serial killer and his World’s Fair-adjacent murder hotel finally come to the big screen…

It’s funny that Titanic is about to enjoy a massive re-release, reminding us all of when Leo was just a little pretty boy- the cinematic version of the Backstreet Boys or something. These days he’s become mega-producer, drama-star, and new muse of director’s like Martin Scorsese and Clint Eastwood. In the coming years we’ll likely get to see him play a villainous Southern plantation owner, a persectued math genius, and an exceptionally twisted and systematic serial killer. There are many that still don’t entirely buy Dicaprio in these harder-edged adult roles (buttholes, mostly) but you damn sure can’t fault his projects choices for being uninteresting.

As for this Moore guy, I hope his apparently brilliant scripts make it through the process as untouched as possible. I’d like to see what all the fuss is about.
