I like Sacha Baron Cohen. I loved Da Ali G Show and Borat. In addition to his leading roles, the man has managed to carve out a nice supporting actor career with turns in Talladega Nights, Sweeney Todd, Hugo, etc…………..as well as upcoming films like Django Unchained and Les Miserables. The lucky bastard also gets to curl up next to Isla Fisher at night. Everything I’ve read about his next effort, The Dictator, sounded like an absolute riot. It’s (obviously) a send-up of modern day dictators and is actually inspired by a novel written by Saddam Hussein. Yes, you read that right. While not one of my most anticipated releases of 2012, I was really looking forward to seeing this….
Not so much now. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am getting a MASSIVE present day Mike Myers vibe from this trailer*. Granted it might not be wholly representative of the actual film itself, but it has disturbed me enough that my anticipation has greatly lessened. I hope I’m wrong and The Dictator ends up being as hilarious as it has the potential to be, but things aren’t looking too good right now. That aside, I did love the race at the end.
