I don’t really know how original and fresh Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s Cabin In The Woods will ultimately play all these years after it was completed and shuffled around, but it’s at least got an interesting poster and an intriguing trailer. Coming across as something like a horror Truman Show by way of Scream (there are probably better alchemic comparisons, so forgive me), it’s clearly a very meta horror flick trading on the humor of lampooning cliches filtered through Whedon’s trademark wit.
Does this trailer get you excited, or do you think times are moving too quickly for a meta-horror movie to still be relevant several years after it was made? Films like House of 1000 Corpses and Trick ‘r’ Treat didn’t recover from their various shelving particularly well, but perhaps a little of that Avengers buzz will crossover, since Whedon will have both this and his superhero epic hitting within a few weeks of each other next April/May.
