John Carpenter’s The Thing has been the subject of lots of talk for the last few years – remakes and sequels have been discussed, and they actually made a video game for the film. Nothing has come to pass… yet. And yes, that’s supposed to be an ominous pause right there.
The latest word in capitalizing on The Thing is a prequel, and if I was a betting man, which I am, but only in blackjack, I would say that this film could happen. The reason I say that is because it’s coming from Strike Entertainment, the folks behind the Dawn of the Dead remake, Slither and 300. And I’ll even double down and say that if these guys do make it, it stands a very good chance of being good. Check out their IMDB filmography for a better than average record.
I have to assume that the prequel would be about The Thing ravaging the Norwegian camp that we see at the beginning of John Carpenter’s movie, and not something about The Thing’s prehistoric misadventures, or about how Wilford Brimley and Keith David first encountered The Thing in the jungles of Viet Nam.
