I have been toying with various ideas of what to do with my blog outside of random entries (personal musings, lists, gushing over a certain film or actor, etc.). There are a few possibilities that might come to fruition on down the line, but one thing in particular has come to mind. Alright, it’s confession time….
I am a James Bond fanatic. Have been since the mid-90s. While I was aware of Bond before then, I didn’t pay much attention to the films or the character. The release of GoldenEye changed that. As massive a cinephile as I am, for better or worse, there is truly no franchise that I love more than the Bond films. I live and breathe that shit! The moment after seeing a new installment, my mind immediately starts pondering the possibilities of the next one. And why wouldn’t it? After all, this series has been going strong on film since 1962 (and in print since 1953!). James Bond and Godzilla have both been alive on this planet longer than most people that I know. How’s that for a thought?
Back to the subject at hand, I am already chomping at the bit for some Bond action. The still untitled “Bond 23” doesn’t hit theaters until November 2012, so I will most certainly have to satiate my addiction elsewhere. Rewatching the existing films as we get closer to the release of the new one is a given, but it is a little early to start that. Outside of occasionally catching a specific one that I am in the mood for, I won’t start that madness until early Summer next year. So what to do? What to do?
I own all of the Bond novels, with the exception of the apparently great Young Bond series by Charlie Higson. Most of you probably aren’t aware of this, but there are A FUCKING LOT of James Bond novels. I’ve read most, but not all of them. More and more, I have been tinkering with the idea of reading through the entire “saga”. It will take awhile, but it will certainly help quench my thirst for Bond until the next film hits theaters a little over a year from now.
So I put it to you, my fellow Chewers………………………would you be interested in reading a blog-a-book series covering the entire official literary run of the character? I’m going to be reading them all regardless, but I really don’t want to put the time and effort into writing up blog installments on them if no one gives a shit. So basically, do you give a shit enough to read what I toss up online? Should I take the time to do it?
Just to give you a good idea of the scope of such a project, there are currently 47 novels in the series (written by 7 different authors). There will probably be 48 by the time I near the end of my journey. I am a quick reader, but this is certainly going to take awhile.
If I do this, I’m going to try to make it as fun as possible for both of us. I just need to know if it is going to be worth my time. So, again, I put it to my fellow Chewers…………..
Will you follow me down this crazy path? Please sound off below and in the forums, whether your answer is yes or no…..
