I, Frankenstein is a long-gestating project  that has finally signed a star, Aaron Eckhart, and will now move forward on the script by Stuart Beattie (Collateral, Pirates 2/3/5, 30 Days of Night) who will also serve as director.

This is a movie that’s been written about ’round these parts for years, as the graphic novel from Underworld co-creator Kevin Grevioux has been on Hollywood’s radar for some time. There’s a Sherlock Holmes meets… I dunno, Priest (?) vibe to the whole thing, as a surviving Frankenstein’s monster makes a living in a dark metropolis as a private detective. He frequently comes up against other monsters in his work, and there is ostensibly a vampire mob led by Dracula running the city.

This all frankly has the ring of the cheap, uninspired CGI-filled horror-actioners of the last few years, like Legion/Priest, the Underworld franchise, and 30 Days Of Night. That much of the key talent has direct links to several of those films is also not particularly confidence-inspiring. That said, Aaron Eckhart can go a long way towards making a project interesting, so I’ll hold off for a trailer.
