Steve Carrell, who unjustly won the Golden Globe for his work on the American version of The Office (while the show is funny, Carrell’s character has none of the charm of Ricky Gervais’, and just comes across as a sociopath due to Carrell’s deadpan performance, and not as a desperate loser), has warned America that Bruce Almighty is becoming a franchise.
We already knew there was a sequel in the works – Evan Almighty, where Carrell’s character from the first film is ordered by Morgan Freeman to build an ark – but now we hear that this will be just the start of a series of films. Says Carrell: “I know Tom Shadyac is hoping that it is a series, and then a couple of years down the road … Will Ferrell or Ben Stiller or somebody else, God comes to them and they need to achieve something and sort of learn, and it’ll be a very sweet movie. It’ll be a nice family movie.”
I can see it now – Will Ferrell has to get his kids out of Vegas before God smotes it, but his wacky wife turns into a pillar of salt! And I am sure that Ben Stiller could make comic gold out of these Biblical passages:
Deuteronomy 7:1-2: "… the seven nations greater and mightier than thou; And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them."
Joshua 6:21: "And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.
