I have been dying to see more footage from Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain ever since ComicCon. Now there’s a new internet-only trailer, and while it doesn’t have a ton of new stuff, it does place things I had seen in fascinating context, and the newer material looks dazzling.
What I like best is that it seems like Aronofsky has taken his “hip hop montage” concept from Requiem and unleashed it on time itself – the repetitive nature of the shots of Hugh Jackman traveling in three different eras is fantastic, and I get the feeling it sums up the movie in many ways.
But who knows? I haven’t read the script, and I remain mostly unspoiled (except for an unpleasant run-in with a blabbermouthed Jim Lee!). In the meantime, I am going back to the Apple site to watch this trailer again. This is the kind of movie that we all sit around and pray for – original, audacious and epic in scope. And it’s looking more and more like Aronofsky has pulled it off.
