I am so proud of the Fahey boys. I’ve already ordered my five copies of this delightful tome (my seal of approval graces the back cover) and am so honored to be contributing a story to issue two. My oldest friends in the world, these two guys couldn’t be more special and unique folks and you would be a silly person not to give their book a peek. Here’s the word from Sean himself…
Hey, kids! It’s Rodeo Joe!
Actually, it’s CHUD.com alum Sean Fahey. Nick has been gracious enough to give me some space to promote a new Western anthology comic book I recently published and co-wrote with my brother, Seamus Kevin Fahey. We’re calling it “Tall Tales from the Badlands.” Screenwriter (“The Messengers” and “Friday the 13th”) and comics scribe (and former CHUD.com alum) Mark Wheaton calls it “easily the best and most authentic-feeling western comic in years.” Five stories. Fifty-two pages. All for the amazing price of $2.50. That’s not a typo. Fifty-two pages of comics for two dollars and fifty cents.
I’m just getting started on the whole writing thing, but don’t let that deter you too much; Seamus has been at this for awhile. He’s currently on the writing staff for “Spartacus,” after having finished tours of duty on “Battlestar Galactica,” “Kings” and “The Forgotten.” He’s also published a handful of comics for Dynamite and DC. In other words, he knows his craft. As for the artwork, we found an impressive group of talented newcomers who have already started proving themselves on books for Marvel, IDW, and Image. I invite you to take a look at some sample pages on our website, www.blackjack-press.com, to judge for yourself.

Here’s a rundown of the stories in issue one:
“A Thousand Deaths,” written by Seamus Kevin Fahey, art by Juan Romera. An aging gunslinger struggles with his fear of the inevitable.
“Thicker Than Water,” written by Sean Fahey, art by Lisandro Estherren. After turning his partner in to the Pinkertons, in order to save his brother’s life, a remorseful bank robber pays a visit to the man he betrayed and learns the true meaning of family.
“Abigail,” written by Seamus Kevin Fahey, art by Jose Holder. Isolated and alone after her husband joins a posse to capture a band of murderers, an unusually resourceful frontier woman taps into her most base maternal instincts in order to protect her children from a brutal home invasion.
“The Runt,” written by Sean Fahey, art by J.C. Grande. A scrappy, weathered old dog gives new meaning to the phrase “Man’s Best Friend,” when he is left to defend his fallen master from a series of blood thirsty scavengers.
“Easy Livin’,” written by Sean Fahey, art by Borja “Borch” Pena. A good natured slice of frontier life piece honoring the adventurous spirit and tireless work ethic of the trappers and mountain men that succeeded in opening up the American West, in the face of endless challenges and constant hardship.
We’re passionate about Westerns, and plan to do one of these a year. In fact, I’m happy to add that CHUD.com’s very own Nick Nunziata will be saddling up to join us with issue two.
