I have heard this summer’s best soundtrack album, and it’s The Devil’s Rejects. Well, maybe Hustle & Flow. Either way, The Devil’s Rejects has a completely fucking amazing soundtrack, and we’re giving away five copies of it. Sure, it’s got the usual "clips from the movie" junk that Quentin Tarantino has made oh so de rigueur, but the real meat is a ton of great fuzzy Southern rock and country tunes. You don’t believe me? Here’s the track list (minus the "clips from the movie"):
Midnight Rambler – Allman Brothers
Shambala – 3 Dog Night
Brave Awakening – Terry Reid
It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels – Kitty Wells
Satan’s Got to Get Along Without Me – Buck Owens and his Buckaroos
Fooled Around and Fell in Love – Elvin Bishop
I Can’t Quit You Baby – Otis Rush
Funk #49 – James Gang
Rock On – David Essex
Rocky Mountain Way – Joe Walsh
To Be Treated – Terry Reid
Freebird – Lynyrd Skynyrd
Seed of Memory – Terry Reid
I’m At Home Getting Hammered (While She’s Out Getting Nailed) – Banjo & Sullivan
And there’s more! This is a dual sided disc, and the second side is a DVD with all the songs in DVD audio quality and a 20 minute making of feature!
This movie, by the way, has inspired me to put Freebird on my iPod, and I listened to it four times in a row while stumbling home drunk on Friday night. I took the long way.
So how do you win a copy? Simple – email me at devin@chud.com (REJECTS in the subject line, please) with your name, mailing address and the answer to the following question:
If you were stumbling home drunk at 4 in the morning, what song would you want to listen to over and over again? No songs from this soundtrack, please.
That’s it. Good luck! The Devil’s Rejects opens all over the place on July 22. Look for my interview with Ken Foree before then!
