I honestly don’t know if I’m ready for Jessica Alba to start playing mom roles. Sure, the real-life mother of one is nearing 30, but I’m hanging on to the images of Max, Nancy Callahan and body-suited Sue Storm for as long as I can. Nevertheless, THR.com reports that Alba is in talks to team with Robert Rodriguez for a third time in his upcoming Spy Kids reboot: Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. In the film, Alba would play a new role, that of a retired spy who’s reactivated and is also a mother to a baby and stepmother to the new pair of tween spy kids.
The stars of the original Spy Kids trilogy, Antonio Banderas, Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara are said to be returning in supporting roles (what, no Gugino??!!). The roles of Alba’s husband, a nerdy investigative reporter, the two kids and the villain, known as the Time Keeper, have yet to be cast. Rodriguez will direct the < $30 million film starting next month in Austin. Alba has previously worked with Rodriguez in Sin City as the aforementioned chaps-wearing Callahan, and is appearing in the upcoming Machete.
Actually, in retrospect, it’s probably just irrationality on my part with Alba and this mom thing. It worked out fine for Ms. Gugino after all…
