The creatively grab-bag SyFy has announced that Pushing Daisies creator, and fellow irregular Y speller, Bryan Fuller is working on a new pilot script for the network. Quoth the press release:
The show will be based upon the popular book The Lotus Caves by John Christopher, about colonists who rebel against the rigidity of their lunar colony by exploring beyond its proscribed boundaries and discovering a series of caves ruled by a super-intelligent, alien species.
Jim Grey (In Plain Sight, Pushing Daisies) will co-write the script with Fuller.
I can’t say I’m overly intrigued by the concept, but I’m curious to see how it unfolds. Fuller is a guy who keeps flirting real quality. Dead Like Me and Wonderfalls were both charming but meh, and Pushing Daisies was somehow simultaneously under and over-rated. But the The Amazing Screw-On Head was excellent (which Fuller produced for SyFy back when they were the less punch-inducingly named Sci-Fi Network). I also don’t think Fuller can be blamed for his time on Heroes; that ship was simply not seaworthy. He’s got the talent level where it seems like one of these days something should click, even accidentally.
This announcement comes on the heals of SyFy’s recent bold declaration of seven new scripted series, such as a meta Bionic Man send-up with the Fall Guy himself, Lee Majors, an even more meta My Name Is Bruce rip-off with Kevin Sorbo, and as was inevitable at some point, The Office with aliens.
Stoner actor turned TRON: Legacy scribe Brian Klugman had been working on a feature script for The Lotus Caves, no word on what if anything will befall that project.
