Right now the first series (that’s British for ‘season’) of Look Around You is available at your local DVD shop. You should buy it. The show, created by Peter Serafinowicz and Robert Popper, takes the form of short educational modules, straight from 70s classrooms. They’re all about science… or at least someone’s idea of science. Subjects range from Germs to Maths to Iron to Ghosts. Short, witty, dry and packed with jokes, Look Around You is unbelievably funny, and it’s been incredibly influential on modern comedy. If you’ve enjoyed shows like Wonder Showzen or Tim & Eric, you should check out Look Around You.
But don’t take my word on it. Here’s a module on Ghosts. Recognize the scientist shocking the trapped ghost in Experiment One? It’s Edgar Wright, who guests in many modules.
1) I’ll be interviewing Serafinowicz and Popper tonight, hopefully getting it on the site by tomorrow.
2) I’ll be moderating the Look Around You panel at Comic Con, which happens Thursday at 5pm in Room 6A. There will be lots of laughs and probably even some surprises.
3) I’m giving away five copies of the first series on DVD! Just drop me a line at devin at chud.com with LOOK AROUND YOU in the subject and your mailing address in the body.
